~July, 2002 Cemetery Move~

In
July, 2002, approximately 91 of the oldest stones
in the St. Philomena cemetery (now the St. Agnes
Parish cemetery) were destroyed when the cemetery
was "moved" to expand the parish
school. The statues and Crucifix shown above were
also removed and placed in storage. The
Archdiocese of St. Louis has agreed to fund the
cost of creating a new monument which will list
the names and dates of the 91 individuals whose
headstones were destroyed. The St. Agnes parish,
St. Louis Archdiocese, and a group of
genealogists and historians are working together
to document the names and dates for the monument.
