Joseph Russell
Gideon was the first graduate of what is now
"College of the Ozarks" , becoming a lawyer,
later served as county clerk, magistrate and probate
judge, and prosecuting attorney, all in Taney Co. Mo. In
about 1942 he prosecuted the last man hung in the state
of Missouri. Joseph's Brother, Robert L. was Circuit
Court Judge in Taney, Christian and Douglas Co. for
years.

Joseph met wis
wife, Jessie Mae Harding, while both were students at the
School Of The Ozarks. Joseph Russell was one of 256
students in the first freshman class, but the other 25
eventually dropped out and he was the first graduate, in
a class of one, in May 1913.
Their five sons
served a total of 187 months in WWII. Joseph Russell was
a key researcher for the Gertrude Josserand book,
"Descendants of james Isham Gideon 1764-1969".
