"Harvey Jim" Gideon (1833--1895)
James D. Gideon
was one of the foremost farmers and stock raisers in the
Union Township, Stone Co, MO area. In the fall of 1863 he
enlisted in Co. "G", 18th MO Cav. as a bugler
and served in that capacity to the close of the war. He
was in several skirmishes in MO and ARK but never wounded
nor captured. He was justice of the peace for several
years and in 1884 elected judge in Stone Co. Served a
term in the State Legislature. His farm was 18 miles
north of Gelena, MO. He was a member of the Marionville
G.A.R. and Missionary Baptist Church.
