Shaw House

The Dr. Benjamin Shaw house at Second and Merchant streets was originally built in 1819 by Jean Baptiste Bossier, after he bought the property from Parfait Dufour in 1818. Dr. Shaw bought it in 1827, and restored using salvage from the sunken river steamboat, the "Doctor Franklin". A widower, he married Emilie Janis LeCompte in 1845 and expanded the house. It has been extensively renovated in the past few years and is open to the public.
