John Ferdinand Rozier Building

John Ferdinand Rozier came to Ste. Genevieve about 1812 with James Audubon, the famous naturalist. He bought this block on Main street in 1836 for $300 from Charles Gregoire. He operated his store from this building, circa 1836. An enterprising businessman, he made six trips to Philadelphia on horseback to buy goods. The building was sold to his sons, Alex and Felix, in 1851. It was the first Rozier store, and later was a Jokerst store. It still operates as a store today and serves as an example of the German brick architecture that co-mingled with the French styles in Ste. Genevieve.
