Michel Placet House

Michel Placet (c. 1735-1795) and his wife, Marie Louise Tessier dit Levigne (1725-1773), lived in Old Town until the flood of 1785. He was granted a gift from the Spanish governmenet of the entire Block One of Main Street for helping to rebuild the church at its new location after the flood. He built this house and later sold it in 1791 to his son, Michel Placet (1768-1834) at 246 N. Main street. Michel married Marie Louise Aubuchon on January 18, 1791. They are the 4th-great grandparents of the webmaster. Michel later traded this house to for Col. Valle's farm, which included what is now the entire town of Bloomsdale. Their daughter, Marie Olympe Placet (1804-1878) married Jean Baptiste Drury and they inherited the farm. The Drurys and Placets are considered the founders of Bloomsdale.
