Augustin Aubuchon - Therese Lalumondiere House

Augustin Aubuchon (1746 - 1825) married Therese Lalumondiere (1755 - 1832) in 1774. They built this house in 1785. It stands at the corner of 5th Street and Washington in Ste. Genevieve, currently serving as home only to the feathery occupants in the yard. Augustin was appointed to be a fire warden in the first board of trustees meeting of Ste. Genevieve in 1808. An ordinance was passed in that meeting that required every citizen of Ste. Genevieve to own a leather bucket, a ladder and a large vessel to hold water and at the outbreak of a fire to "run with all possible haste to it."
